Dental Bridges are a type of false tooth or teeth that anchor to neighbouring teeth to fill an existing gap. There are two main types of Dental Bridge: Conventional Bridges, which use crowns to sit on top of the neighbouring natural teeth, with the false tooth (called a pontic) in between them and Adhesive Bridges, with wings that fit to the back of the neighbouring natural teeth.
There are benefits and downsides to each type, which can be fully discussed with the clinician at your consultation. Each bridge will be custom-made to a design that fits your mouth perfectly. Both methods offer a range of different benefits but are equally designed to minimise cutting and damage to remaining natural teeth. The false teeth are made using porcelain and a mixture of precious metals for a natural finish.
At Wish Dental, we’re highly experienced in creating and fitting Dental Bridges using both Conventional and Adhesive methods. Dental Bridges are a suitable option for many patients and our team are well-experienced to help you decide whether they’re the right choice for you.
The key benefit of Dental Bridges is their ability to transform an incomplete smile by replacing missing teeth. Looking into the treatment in further detail, there are various reasons why a Dental Bridge, either Conventional or Adhesive, may feel like the right option for you.
Some of the main reasons are:
If you choose to proceed with a Dental Bridge, the treatment begins with preparation of the abutment (neighbouring) teeth by removing a layer of enamel, after which impressions are taken to create the false tooth and fittings, which are then produced to the highest standard in a laboratory and fitted with dental cement.
A Conventional Dental Bridge is where the new false tooth is attached to two crowns which sit on top of the neighbouring natural teeth. This type of bridge is effective for fixing single or multiple missing teeth and can be used in various positions around the mouth.
Alternatively, we offer Adhesive Bridges, sometimes known as ‘sticky bridges’. This type of false tooth is fixed to neighbouring teeth using one or two metal wings that adhere to the behind-side of these teeth. This option is generally more suitable for single missing teeth, particularly those positioned at the front of the mouth.
The team at Wish Dental will be able to explain each treatment in more depth and help you make an informed decision.
If you’ve been wishing for a transformed smile and feel that either type of Dental Bridge could be the right treatment for you, you need look no further than Wish Dental.
