At home and in-clinic care for your gums and overall oral hygiene are designed to support a natural, healthy smile. Early gum disease is very common and this can be treated and well-managed with good dental hygiene; however, if left untreated, gum disease can develop into a serious dental condition which can eventually result in tooth loss.
We all wish for a healthy, natural smile and gum health really is the foundation to achieving this. At Wish Dental, we offer a range of periodontal services that are designed to create a great base of oral hygiene for you to then maintain and build upon at home. After all, prevention is better than cure and by exploring these services, you better your chances of not having to invest in others.
Gum disease in its early stages is common amongst adults. It is caused by plaque, which is a constantly forming, sticky film of bacteria that builds up on the teeth and around the gums. Signs of gum disease can include bleeding gums and bad breath. Untreated, it can worsen to cause a lot of discomfort and eventually tooth loss.
Preventing gum disease is a two-step approach: at home oral hygiene and professional periodontal services. At Wish Dental, we have a range of services available in-clinic with our expert Hygienist team:
Our periodontal services are designed to assess, prevent and treat gum disease and a consultation with the team at Wish Dental can help you design a plan of treatment that is best suited to your needs.
When it comes to looking after your oral hygiene at home, there are many steps that can be taken. Some of these steps are well-known, basic routine where others may be an addition to your dental care at home but will take you one step closer to the healthy, natural smile you have been wishing for.
As well as brushing twice a day, we recommend using an electric toothbrush if possible. Studies show that electric toothbrushes can be up to 21% more effective at removing plaque and the small brush head is typically better for cleaning hard to reach areas of the mouth.
There are other teeth brushing techniques that can be more effective for thoroughly removing teeth without being too vigorous, including holding the brush at a 45-degree angle to the tooth.
Interdental cleaning is a great addition to your dental hygiene routine at home and can include flossing, Tepes or a Waterpik. Your Wish Dental Hygienist will be able to talk you through all these options, demonstrate and help you decide which is best for you to continue at home.
Healthy gums need not be just a wish. Improve your natural smile with the support of the team at Wish Dental with our periodontal services and gum health advice.
